The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team defeated
the Alabama State University Lady Hornets 11-3 today in the
first round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference post
season softball tournament.
SU (19-19) was led by senior Lauren Dodd who finished the
contest 3 for 3 with four runs.
Sophomore Jasmine Tillman ended the game 2 for 2 with
three RBI’s and two runs.
Pitcher Lanaya Jenkins struck out four and allowed
two runs to earn her twelfth win of the season.
SU open the scoring in the bottom of the second inning and
continued to score until the top of the fifth when the Lady
Hornets added three scores to the board.
SU went back to work at the plate in the bottom of
the sixth and scored the final run of the game to take their
nineteenth victory of the year.
Jackson State University defeated the University of Arkansas
at Pine Bluff 3-0 in the second contest of the day.
The Lady Tigers will face the Blue and Gold in the
second round of the conference tournament at 12:00 pm on
Friday, April 24.
All games during the 2009 tourney are being played at
Timberton Softball Complex in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
