Prairie View, Texas –
“We just didn’t hit
the ball well,” head coach Nancy Marshall said as the SU
softball team posted only three hits against Western
Division foe the Prairie View A&M University Lady Panthers.
SU fell 4-0 in their first SWAC contest of April.
Southern’s (14-17, 7-4 SWAC) three hits came by way of true
freshman Audrey Phillips, sophomore Kesha Tauriac and junior
Aruba Nicholas.
The pitching staff did not fare well versus PV as junior
Lanaya Jenkins gave up two hits and three runs while her
relief freshman Caroline Myers saw three batters walk and
three hitters reached base.
Southern saw PV score two runs in the bottom of the first,
one in the second and another in the fifth to take a 4-0
lead and win over the first place Jaguars.
SU will get another shot at the Lady Panthers when they get
together for doubleheader action on Saturday, April 4.
The contests are scheduled for 12:00 and 2:00 pm at
Lady Panther field on the campus of Prairie View A&M.
