The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team was swept
today by the Louisiana College Lady Wildcats 16-4 and 8-3.
LC is currently ranked the number three team in the
United States in Division III
softball.
Southern (5-8) was led today by catcher
Aruba Nicholas who hit .429.
The junior recorded two runs, three hits and an RBI.
Shortstop Chastoni Jones ended the day with a .333
batting average after ending the doubleheader with three
runs, two hits, a homerun and an RBI.
The Lady Jaguars took a 1-0 lead after
the first inning, in the first game but never saw it again.
LC scored eight runs in the top of the second inning
and added six more in the third. Southern put two on the
board after leftfielder Audrey Phillips hit a triple that
scored Jones.
Phillips then came in after senior Lauren Dodd hit a
sacrifice ground out to cut into
Louisiana
College’s lead.
LC put two more runs on the scoreboard in the fourth
and held SU to two scores in the fourth to take 16-5 win.
The second contest saw LC start off
with a one run lead after the first and a eight to zero
score in the fourth before the Lady Jags could total some
runs up of their own.
The seven-time Western Division champions score two
runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the sixth but
couldn’t get enough runs across the plate to give the Lady
Wildcats their second victory of the day.
The Blue and Gold will use this to
tune-up and tighten some kinks as they prepare to travel to
Hattiesburg, MS
to compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference softball
round-up.
The event is scheduled for March 6-8 and will be played at
the Timberton Softball Complex.
