LADY JAGUARS FALL TO COLONELS

April 08, 2010 - Baton Rouge, LA - The Nicholls State University softball team pumped out a season's best 16 hits en route to a 9-2 victory over Southern University at Lady Jaguar Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Colonels (19-9) put a total of eight runs on the scoreboard over the first two innings to take an 8-0 lead that the Lady Jaguars (8-26) never recovered from. Nicholls added another run to the board in the top of the fifth inning to increase their lead to nine. SU managed two runs in bottom of the fifth to avoid the eight run rule but was unable to create any more offense leaving five Jaguars on base.

Juniors Jasmine Tillman, Victoria Stewart and red-shirt sophomore Kasha Tauriac were the only members in the Blue and Gold with hits. Tillman and senior April Augustine recorded the runs while sophomore Audrey Phillips posted an RBI. Freshman pitcher Joei Glynn picked up the lost for the SU pitching staff. Sophomore Caroline Myers struck out three but gave up six hits in relief for Glynn.

Southern will be back in action this weekend as the host the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff to a SWAC three-game series. Game time is set for 2:00 pm on Friday, April 9. Then on Saturday, April 10, the double header will start with a 12 noon first pitch. All contests will be played at Lady Jaguar field.
