In the first game SU's offense was kept at bay by the
Lady Wildcats pitcher Rene' Schwartzenburg who struck out
10, but gave up two unearned runs. With just three outs to
play, the Lady Wildcats got two players on base. Roy then
came up and delivered a double off the left center field
wall to win the game.
In her first game this season senior
Lanaya Jenkins struck out three but gave up eight hits
and received her first loss of the season.
In the second match, the Blue and Gold let loose a
hailstorm of hits in the late innings but couldn't create
enough runs leaving seven on base. Most of the five runs
were attributable to freshman shortstop
Shawntall Steamer who, after hitting a solo shot off
Schwartzenburg in game 1, delivered a two-run homer in the
fourth for SU's first two runs.
SU would score two runs in the fifth, one earned and one
unearned, and another in the seventh, a solo home run off
the bat of junior outfielder
Victoria Stewart, but a run by the Lady Wildcats in the
sixth, provided enough cushion for the 7-5 victory.
Senior
Aruba Nicholas led the way finishing with a .571 batting
average going 4 for 7 from the plate with two runs scored
and a double. Steamer ended the two game series 3 for 7 with
her first homerun of her career, three runs batted in and a
.429 batting average.
The Lady Jaguars will enjoy the next six days off as they
prepare for mid-terms on "the bluff" and use the time for
healing of any injuries. Their next contest is scheduled for
March 10, when they travel to Houston, Texas to face the
Cougars of the University of Houston in their "Think Pink
game.
