Southern (0-7) was led by junior
Victoria Stewart who finished the game with three hits
and two runs batted in. Sophomore
Audrey Phillips ended the game with a run and a hit.
Senior
Brittany Hymes recorded a run while and sophomore
Chastoni Jones add an RBI and two runs to her stat
sheet.
The Lady Jaguars held strong for two innings until the
Demons broke out a four run third inning. Northwestern then
added a run in the fourth and fifth inning. The Blue and
Gold cut into NSU's five-run lead with a two-run fifth
inning. Jones doubled to left field to score Hymes, who
entered as a pinch runner for freshman Jennifer Honore.
Jones then scored after Phillips singled and both runners
advanced on a throwing error by NSU's Taylor McLaughlin. The
Demons put their final three runs on the board in the bottom
of the sixth. SU added two more runs in the final frame to
bring the final to 9-4.
Freshman
Joei Glynn picked up her fourth lost of the season after
facing 31 batters.
Next up for SU is the Tiger Invitational hosted by
cross-town rival Louisiana State University. Starting
Friday, February 26, the Blue and Gold will face
Jacksonville State University at noon. Jacksonville then
faces the University of Houston before SU challenges LSU in
a 5:00 contest. On Saturday, February 27, SU faces Houston
at 11:00 am. The bracket part of the tournament starts after
Jacksonville takes on LSU in the 1:30 pm matchup. All games
will be played at the new Tiger Park.
