Southern (0-2) was lead by true freshman Joei Glynn who
started her first collegiate contest on the mound.
"I very nervous before the game, I had lots of
butterflies, "said Glynn. After the first couple of batters
I settled in and my teammates helped me along."
The Houston, Texas native recorded her first complete
contest giving up eight hits and three earned runs. She also
posted her second career strikeout and allowed only two
walks in 31 batters faced.
"Joei did a terrific job today, I'm really proud of her
handling the situation like she did," said head coach Nancy
Marshall. "I seen some things she could work on which will
help her down the road."
Junior Kesha Tauriac led the team in batting finishing
two of three with her second run this season and her first
RBI. Freshman Shawntall Steamer recorded the second run for
SU. Senior Aruba Nicholas posted her first hit of 2010 while
red-shirt junior Jasmone Williams was seeing action for the
first time since April 2008. The Carthage, Texas native
injured her shoulder and decided to sit out the 2009 season.
"I have been anxious to see Jasmone in action all during
the preseason," said Marshall. "She's been working hard to
get back. With her at first it gives us another leader in
the field."
"As a team we improved from yesterday when we played
Southern Miss.," the SU Hall of Famer stated. "Southeastern
is a tough opponent either in Hammond or in Baton Rouge so
playing them the way we did shows we have improved.
Southern now travels to Corpus Christi, Texas to
participate in the Islander Invitational presented by
Holiday Inn Emerald Beach this weekend.
