Southern (0-1) could not catch up to Golden Eagles
pitchers as they managed three hits out of 23 at bats in the
six innings of play. Sophomore Caroline Myers gave up 10
hits while her replacement, in the top of the fourth, Joie
Gylnn saw five get loose, out of the 12 batters she faced.
This was Glynn's first collegiate contest. The Houston,
Texas native recorded the lone strike out for the Lady
Jaguars pitching staff.
The first run of the 2010 season was scored by junior
Kesha Tauriac in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tauriac
hit the ball to the USM's short stop Jill Mathis who then
made a bad throw to first allowing the New Iberia native to
advance to second base. Senior Aruba Nicholas grounded out
to the first baseman an advanced Tauriac to third base. The
twin then stole home off of a passed ball by USM's catcher
Alexis Hurley.
"When you play a team like USM you have to have your best
nine on the field," said head coach Nancy Marshall.
"Defensively I pleased, offensively I wasn't we just didn't
put the bat on the ball."
"Now that the first game jitters are gone we will look to
do better," said the 14th year head coach. "We have some
bugs to work out but they will be fixed and we will move
on."
SU host the Southeastern Louisiana University Lady Lions
to a 2:00 pm contest on Wednesday, February 17. Admission is
free.
