Nancy Marshall, Head Coach

 

A Dawson, GA native, Nancy Marshall is entering her ninth year as Southern University's Head Softball Coach. A 1996 Psychology graduate of Southern University, Marshall earned an associated degree in 1991 from Bishop State Community. In her tenure as head coach she has guided the Lady Jaguars to four Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) western division titles (1997,1999,2003, and 2004) and two conference tournament crowns (1999 and 2003) and also two regional tournament appearances.  Her career record currently stands at 214 wins and 154 losses.

In 2003, Marshall 's young Lady Jaguars team put together a banner winning year by capturing the conference championship. The next year she guided her team to their fourth western division title.
 

Mark Mattox, Assistant Coach

 

Mark Mattox comes to Southern University after a successful 14 year coaching career in both HS and at the Junior Olympic level in Indianapolis, IN.

While at Center Grove HS (Greenwood, IN) in 1993 the Trojans remained ranked #1 in the state wire to wire completing an undefeated regular season, while winning Sectional and Regional titles before losing in the final four. 

In 3 seasons at Speedway HS (Indianapolis, IN 2003 - 2006) Mattox compiled a record of 51-16 turning around a program that had never had a winning season prior to his arrival.  Between high school assignments Mattox co-founded the Indiana Storm 16u program qualifying for the national tournament 10 consecutive seasons.

The last 4 years Mattox joined the Indy Crush 18u program and helped them win back to back state championships in 2005-2006 as well as a 7th place finish at the ASA Nationals in Owensboro, KY in 2006.  Mark received a B.S. in Sociology from Redding University and currently lives in Lafayette, LA with his wife Kendra and daughters Destiny 12 and Gabrielle 3.
